White is red hot. White is the little black d ress of interior design. It is the most versatile shade on the color wheel – equally perfect for an urban loft, a cozy cottage, a kid-filled suburban home or a mountain retreat. White looks great with every wall color and can break up heavy dark wood tones, brightening a space with its color, as well as being a light source. All white glass and hand-cut white crystals bring a vintage feel to a chandelier and is easily paired with a modern room design. Beautiful wrought-iron floral in a high-sheen white finish gives a look that is both modern and retro. An all-white palette can define a vintage space or a sleek modern one.
One of the most interesting things about watching the eclipse was witnessing the patterns of light as the moon moved in front of the sun, with various effects such as a starburst. World Market has created its own exclusive chandelier resembling that effect. The Brass Starburst Collin Chandelier, priced at $199, is both affordable and memorable. Made of iron with a matte brass finish, this fixture includes nine type B 25-watt light bulbs, offering rays of light that extend across the table.
When you see a light sculpture designed to increase the visual appeal of a room and define its luminous character, you stop on your way to admire it. It’s the case of the Raindrop chandelier known as “The Pour”, a modern light sculpture meant to illuminate and beautify its chosen location in Tribeca, New York City. Lisa Hinderdael and Dara Huang of Design Haus Liberty worked on the design that was supposed to create a unique vibe in a living room featuring exposed industrial columns on either end of a dropped beam. According to the design brief, the light sculpture was supposed to “create an architectural relationship with the space” while beautifully hanging off the exposed beam.
The intensity of the shadows is due to the design. Enveloped in the twisted branches, the strong light source allows the shadows to climb the walls and transform the room entirely. The mood and effect of the lighting changes as the light is dimmed, making the shadows fade into subtle silhouettes.
