The ribbons of translucent silicone imitate rows of tubes that contribute to the perception of the musical instruments theme: “We`ve continued our experiments with silicone as we love the translucency and color overlaying effects that this material provides. And its flexibility is important as well“, the two designers stated. Anna and Alexey started their creative collaboration in Moscow more than 10 years ago. Their area of expertise includes product design and light design, as well as interior and transportation design. How would you comment on this particular item in their portfolio?
Of course, traditional tiered crystal chandeliers never go out of style and some manufacturers are adding a modern twist on the idea by creating pieces made of more organic materials such as wood or substituting wood beads for crystals. Many retailers, including several mentioned above, offer such chandeliers starting at less than $150.
The light installation is a teardrop-shaped chandelier with deliciously unique lights that celebrate the fascinating nature of raindrops, where no drop is the same as the next. Photographed by Lauren Coleman, the installation was imagined as a whole made of unique pieces: “Each drop is hand blown by artisans and intricately engineered to house the lighting strategy for the chandelier.” Working with UK-based glass-blowers and metal engineers to create the crystal tear-drops, designers fabricated each droplet after careful observation of real raindrops.
